Yesterday Iran said they took down an American surveillance drone from the sky, angering the United States. On edge, the States announced that there will be an air strike against Iran in retaliation, but it never came. It appears that for now President Trump has called it off.
The strikes were supposed to happen early in the morning when people are still inside, so as not to cause any injuries. The target for the strikes was some military equipment. It is not known if Trump will press the issue further and try again at another time in the coming days. Many speculate that he didn’t call off the strikes, as much as his administration decided to take more time to consider their options better.
This drone incident comes after weeks of worsening relations between the United States and Iran. Ever since President Trump unilaterally canceled the Iran deal, things have gone sour. Trump not only reinstated oil sanctions against Iran, but tried to actively campaign against any oil exports from the country in a desire to push them down to 0.
Iran has been vocal in their disagreement with the United States. Over the past months there have been a number of oil-related incidents in the Middle East and Iran is suspected to have caused them.
