With only one constituency left to declare its official ballot count, 649 out of 650 seats in the UK Parliament have been claimed, and the list of winners and losers is, for all intents and purposes, final.

Completely in line with prediction polls, Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party won a massive majority in Parliament, with 364 seats, and would be able to bring 47 new Tory MPs into Parliament. This is the best result the Conservatives have achieved in over 30 years.

The newly-won Conservative seats come at the expense of the Labour Party, who did not do well in the election, losing 59 of the seats they previously held. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has already announced he will not run for Prime Minister at the next election, choosing to pass down the leadership to fresh blood.

This election was unlike any other, as Brexit stood out as the main issue, and people were encouraged to vote based on individual candidates’ stance on Brexit, not necessarily according to party bias. Remainers had hoped for a Labour victory, which would have guaranteed a delay and a second referendum, but it appears many voters were too weary of Brexit and chose to side with Boris Johnson instead.

Johnson will remain Prime Minister; he has stated that most of his cabinet will be unchanged too, with some minor adjustments. The PM said he will be ready to present the Brexit withdrawal agreement for a parliamentary vote next Friday and get things moving for a January Brexit.
