American governmental workers are getting a short reprieve as last week Trump finally agreed to a deal that will temporarily fund the government until February 15. This comes after a five-week partial government shutdown, the longest in US history, which left almost a million workers without pay right after the holidays, and disrupted the work of many governmental agencies.

The Democrats were relentless against Trump’s demand of $5.7 billion to build a wall along the border with Mexico in exchange for ending the shutdown. In fact, the President only agreed to this temporary solution because nationwide polls indicated that he is losing approval due to the shutdown.

Legislators from both the Democratic and the Republican parties are hoping that the next three weeks will be enough to negotiate seriously and reach a deal to fund the government until September 30, when the fiscal year ends.

Trump has since stated that his position regarding the wall remains unchanged. He said he is ready to start another shutdown in February and even proceed with his plan of declaring a national emergency.
