The American President got himself in another scandal as 16 of the 50 total states comprising the US filed court cases against him regarding his announcing a national emergency in order to seize money for the building of a partial wall along the border with Mexico.

It was previously speculated that the Democratic party will challenge Trump’s emergency in court, but lawyers have stated it is difficult to argue on the basis of what an emergency is, since the definition is broad and Trump might win that case. However, many of the separate cases filed over the last few days come from private land owners, whose properties lie in the areas that will be affected by the construction. The case from California, which served as a catalyst for the other ones, is on more constitutional grounds, with lawyers arguing that Trump is overreaching his authority and abusing the Constitution of the United States by taking control of so much of taxpayers’ money. Since Trump signed the proposal of Congress which only gave him about $1.4 billion, he declared he would take almost $7 billion from other parts of the budget without the approval of Congress. Many of the cases state that the President seizing those funds that have already been allocated to other projects and government services (such as the activities of actual anti-drug squads) will have a negative impact on the country.

While this is not enough to cancel Trump’s wall plans, it could significantly slow him down as he fights in court over his decision.
