President Donald Trump announced that the phase-one trade agreement with China is ready and currently being translated, as it needs to be signed in both languages. He also said he and Xi Jinping are due to meet for a signing ceremony soon, with analysts expecting it to happen in the first week of January.
This information was also confirmed by the Chinese government, where officials said currently the details regarding the meeting and the signing ceremony are being worked out. They also said the exact terms of the deal will be revealed after it is signed.
Meanwhile, many have their eyes on North Korea. The country said it will launch a missile during the holidays as a way to pressure the United States to lift its sanctions. Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump held a meeting some time ago, with the US reportedly agreeing to help soften international attitudes towards North Korea. Trump also boasted he would get the country to end its nuclear program, but that hasn’t happened yet.
North Korea has threatened an attack during the holidays, but Trump so far has dismissed it. He will be spending the holidays at his Mar-a-Lago residence, working on his impeachment trial defense.
The markets are mostly quiet today, as a large portion of the world celebrates Christmas.
