Early Reports from the Forum in Davos

Yesterday in Davos the annual World Economic Forum began which is attended by over 60 country heads. The forum will be affected by the theme of climate change around the planet and it is "very important," said the President of the Forum, Klaus Schwab, especially since transport links in Switzerland right now are difficult due to increased snowfall.

The oil minister of Saudi Arabia, Khaled bin Abdul Aziz al-Faleh, made a statement about the probability of further reduction in OPEC oil production after 2018, after which the quotes for the Brent crude again approached the mark of $70 per barrel.

Furthermore, yesterday it became known that the US Senate endorsed the candidacy of Jerome Powell as the new head of the Federal Reserve, so in February he is to replace Janet Yellen. However, the dollar failed to strengthen its positions yesterday.

China is warily watching the new economic policy pursued by Donald Trump, which has affected the trade relations of the two countries. Trump proposed to introduce higher tariffs on some goods imported from China to the United States, after which Beijing condemned the new tariffs and said they hoped that Washington will show restraint in establishing new norms.

As for the euro, the IMF economists see an improvement in the forecast for the eurozone and expect growth of 2.2%, instead of 1.9% as previously predicted.
