US President Donald Trump is set to give his 2019 State of the Union address today at 21:00 (02:00 GMT) before Congress, which includes both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The annual speech that the American President is required to give before Congress was previously postponed due to the partial government shutdown in the US, with Democrats claiming that since the NSA was one of the defunded agencies, there was not enough security to ensure everyone’s safety during the address. However, since the government was able to agree on a short-term funding plan to last for several weeks, Trump will finally get to speak tonight.
The State of the Union is usually a time when the President of the United States recapitulates the most important current issues that the government needs to focus on and this sets the tone for the rest of the year. Nevertheless, it is widely expected that Trump will turn this event into a rant about his proposed wall plan and demand funding for it once again. Trump has already stated that if Congress does not come up with a budget that includes $5.7 billion for a wall parts of the border with Mexico, he will force another government shutdown and maybe even declare a national emergency.
Americans have already started several campaigns encouraging citizens not to watch the speech in an attempt to boycott it.
